Unadkat's Bowling Tactics Against KL Rahul

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], May 5: In a thrilling encounter during the 18th edition of the IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad's medium-fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat dismissed KL Rahul, quashing any notions that bowling round the wicket is a vulnerability for the seasoned wicketkeeper-batter.

The Delhi Capitals found themselves in a precarious position at 29/4 after just seven overs, desperately needing a hero to turn their fortunes around. With Rahul at the crease, fans hoped for a comeback, but Unadkat swiftly ended those hopes.

On the very first ball of the eighth over, the left-arm seamer opted to bowl round the wicket, delivering a full ball that angled towards the off-stump. Rahul, attempting to drive the ball, edged it, allowing Ishan Kishan to take a sharp catch, leaving Rahul with a score of 10 runs off 14 balls.

Unadkat later discussed his strategy against Rahul, asserting that he does not consider it a weakness. He explained, “As a bowler, you need to have various tactics, and changing the angle is one of them. I have bowled to KL before, both over and round the wicket, and I believe I have a better chance against him when bowling round the wicket,” he shared with the broadcasters.

The 33-year-old bowler elaborated on their overall game plan, stating, “We started strong and took crucial wickets, which helped control the runs. Our basic strategy was to hit the deck and vary our pace. Securing wickets at key moments was essential. The pitch improved as the game progressed; it initially had some stopping, but it got better, and we felt confident about chasing down the target.”

Thanks to skipper Pat Cummins' impressive three-wicket haul, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to limit the Capitals to a mere 133 runs for 7 wickets.
